Project Exclusive
The Sirius building at The Rocks is an iconic heritage site in Sydney, renowned for its brutalist architecture and significant place in the city’s history. Originally constructed in 1979, the building was designed to provide affordable housing for working-class families.
Today, it stands as a celebrated example of 20th-century design and a model for sustainable urban renewal. The project preserved the building’s original structure, reducing the environmental impact of demolition and new construction, and added eco-friendly upgrades like rooftop gardens and improved energy systems.
These features position Sirius as a model for adaptive reuse, blending heritage preservation with contemporary sustainability practices.
The Access Floor Scoop
The redevelopment of Sirius required an innovative access flooring solution that could balance the preservation of the building’s iconic heritage with the need for modern, high-performance functionality. ASP Access Floors Urban Interlock system played a pivotal role in this transformation.
As part of the project, ASP Access Floors installed 76m² of Urban Interlock, a system specifically chosen for its compatibility with stone and tile applications. Urban Interlock prevents cracking, ensuring a durable and long-lasting finish—an essential feature for the high-traffic living spaces within the Sirius Building.
Urban Interlock access flooring complements the aesthetic and functional demands of Sirius’s interiors while supporting the building’s benchmark for a sustainable redevelopment.
